Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to prep for my shoot?

When it comes to preparation, the amount you do before a session is up to you. Horse show prep is a good marker for how much you want to do as a dirty horse will be obvious in camera. Things like clipped ears and muzzle as well as braids are not required, but can give an additional polished look. D-Ring bits tend to look the most professional if you want to push the "fancy hunter" aesthetic, but that is completely up to you!

For any Equine Portraiture session I place the horse in an open barn aisle or the entrance to an indoor ring. Having one of these accessible for the shoot is a must as it will provide the right light set-up.

Can you edit this out?

A lot of time is taken to edit each individual photo and with that comes touching up things like scars, fungus, and other small details. Editing will not get rid of dirt or clean up a hairy coat, so make sure to have your horse looking their best for the photos!

Do you offer group discounts?

I offer group discounts to a group of 4 or more coming from the same property on a given day. Additionally, if travel fees are involved in your final balance, finding someone else in your area will result in your travel fees being split between both parties.

Will you travel to me?

The short answer is yes! I am always looking for new places to go and would love to travel around for photos. I do charge additional fees for larger travel, but any travel related fees will be discussed during the booking process. My two current locations are Long Island, NY and Savannah, GA. Locations that stretch more than a couple of hours from either of those two places may not be doable due to scheduling restrictions.

How do I receive my images?

Every shoot has an online digital gallery included which will allow you to view and download all of the photos from the session. This gallery is privacy protected so your photos stay between you and I, but feel free to share the digital gallery with anyone you'd like!

How does the print credit work?

The Print Credit is something I've added into the larger packages as an additional benefit. It serves as a discount on any prints you would order, regardless of the size of the order. Prices of prints vary based on size/finish/etc and the credit will be applied to your order accordingly.

Can you shoot with more than one horse?

Yes! Keep in mind there will be some juggling involved, but either style of shoot works well with more than one horse. For horse and rider sessions it is beneficial to have an extra set of hands to hold onto the second horse. For Equine Portrait sessions, the two horses will be put together digitally, so no need to worry about getting both of them to stand in an aisle way together.

What's with the watermark?

In the age of social media it has become a greater necessity to brand any type of creative work. Photos can be stolen, used for means other than the original intention, and leave photographers without any recognition. Because of this, any photos you receive digitally will contain a small watermark in order to protect them under copyright and are safe to share on social media.

Please note a watermark does not replace credit being given. When posting remember to credit us on Instagram @msf.photographyy or on Facebook @ MSF Equine Photography.

How quickly will I get my photos?

My standard turn around time is anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Larger projects require more editing and therefore potentially more time to produce finished work. Getting your photos back to you in a timely manner is my top priority, but I also value taking a little longer if that results in more polished photos.
